Minas Port opens two new warehouses at Porto do Açu

There are 12,800 m² and a dedicated yard of 11,000 m² to boost the movement of grains and solid fuels, doubling the movement through the T-MULT

The Minas Port group inaugurated this Thursday (04/07), in Porto do Açu, Norte Fluminense (RJ), a new storage area, with an investment of R$ 100 million. There are two new warehouses of 6.4 thousand m² each, totaling 12.8 thousand m², with a storage capacity of 70 thousand tons, 35 thousand in each of them focusing on storing grains (soybeans and corn). Furthermore, a new area of 11 thousand m² will be ready to store various products, such as solid fuels.

Installed at the industrial port, Minas Port will be responsible for both the movement of its solid fuel cargoes and will also provide storage and transportation services for customers in the agricultural sector. The shipment of exported cargo will take place through the Açu Multicargo Terminal (T-MULT).

In parallel with the opening of the warehouses, the Minas Port Group is also implementing a new logistics concept, which aims to increase productivity via road transport. The company’s fleet of trucks will enter Açu bringing soybeans for storage in warehouses and will carry out reverse logistics at the port complex, taking solid fuel and fertilizers for distribution mainly in MG and GO.

The new storage structure promises to further increase competitiveness for the movement of these loads.

The two new warehouses at Minas Port complement the service structure to offer more services at T-MULT, which already has three covered warehouses, in operation since 2023.

T-MULT exponential growth

In 2023, T-MULT handled 2.1 million tons, which represented an increase of 33% compared to the same period in 2022. In the last year, new loads were added to the portfolio, including iron ore briquettes, soybeans, corn for export, in addition to salt received by cabotage. T-MULT also acquired seven new customers, totaling 55 in the portfolio. The terminal has been operating for eight years, handling solid bulk and project cargo and had a ramp-up of 43% per year (according to CAGR – compound annual growth rate). The terminal saw growth in export, import and cabotage operations, doubling its operations in just two years. With a balance between import and export cargo, the terminal also offers competitive solutions focused on customer needs.

By the end of 2024, the T-MULT’s operational dock area will be 500 meters long, with a draft of up to 13.1 meters, and a second berth to operate two ships simultaneously. As a result, the terminal’s handling capacity will initially increase to 2.7 million tons per year. Also considering the expansion of the storage area, it will be possible to double this handling capacity over the next few years, reaching up to 5 million tons, which is what a simultaneous operation of two ships allows.
